This GoFundMe page has been created for my cousin, Heather, whose husband, Charles, is in the hospital fighting for his life on a ventilator from COVID. Just a few months ago, they were celebrating the purchase of their first home, and Heather is now facing the very real possibility of being a single mother to four children, ages 17, 9, 4 and 2. Unfortunately, even the most careful of families are not spared from this awful disease.

I am fortunate to have lots of cousins who have become my lifelong friends, and I love them all, but Heather and I, particularly, share a special bond. Some of my earliest memories are moments I spent with her…playing at our grandparents’ house, sleepovers, making prank calls, and even fighting like siblings. I do not have a biological sister, but I don’t need biology to tell me Heather is my sister.

Despite the difficult time she is dealing with, she has been so strong for her children who love and miss their daddy and are not allowed to visit him due to the pandemic. This is not the first time she has faced adversity in her life, and I am heartbroken she is in this position now during what should have been a happy and prosperous time for their family.
