Hope & Healing for Kathy During Her ALS Journey

In August 2020 our sister Kathy Lansford was given a devastating diagnosis: ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.


Kathy has what’s called “Bulbar Onset” ALS, which affects the nerves supplying function to the muscles in her face, mouth, and tongue, causing symptoms like difficulty speaking, chewing, and swallowing. As the disease progresses, muscle weakness and muscle atrophy will affect her limbs and other parts of her body.


After much research, Kathy found a comprehensive functional medical institute in Florida called Body Science, where they specialize in Medical Chemistry, the area of cellular medicine that targets cellular repair. Body Science provides individualized treatments to people with ALS by connecting each patient’s unique symptom onset and progression with their exposures to create individualized treatments for each person. Patients receiving treatments at Body Science are seeing incredible results; Some have gone from using a wheelchair to walking, others regained their ability to speak and swallow, while some have had a complete reversal of their disease and overcame ALS.


When someone is diagnosed with ALS, they are typically advised to go home and get their affairs in order, so for Kathy to have found this clinic and receive treatments here has been a true blessing. While the clinic does not provide a “magic pill” or an "easy road," the treatments Kathy is receiving, the people with ALS she’s meeting who understand what she is going through, and the caring staff who provide the treatments and care have all instilled new HOPE to what otherwise feels like a hopeless diagnosis. 


Kathy is 59 years old. She’s been married to her husband Ross for 37 years. They have two daughters and two granddaughters. Many years ago, Kathy started her own appraisal company and worked tirelessly to make it a successful and thriving business. Just recently, due to the progression of her symptoms - mainly her difficulty with speech, she had to make the tough decision to close her business much sooner than she ever expected, but Kathy’s faith is strong, and she finds great comfort knowing God has a plan for her and her family. 


The cost of treatments at Body Science is high, and unfortunately, they are not covered by insurance. Because of the cost, the hopeful possibilities, and the absolute need - as there are simply no other options offering anything remotely similar; we are asking for donations to help Kathy and Ross financially so Kathy can continue her treatments and focus solely on healing and fighting ALS.

Kathy is determined to beat ALS, and to witness her fight this difficult disease with such a positive outlook has been inspiring.
