Help Heal This Injured Pup's Broken Leg & Find Forever Home

Donation protected
Hello! This morning, I found this happy-go-lucky stray around Yale and 34th after he nearly got hit by a car. Unfortunately, it appears like he has been hit by a car previously. My friend Kennedy & I easily coaxed him over, and though he was limping, he was incredibly social and friendly. His “butt wiggles” when he sees another person or dog quickly convinced us we needed to do something. Since he was clearly uncomfortable but still very happy and friendly, Kennedy gave him a bath to get rid of fleas & I took him to the vet, where the financial component of this task became quickly apparent.

He has a broken left femur & is heartworm positive (although in early stages). Due to the nature of the break, he’s a potential candidate to put a pin in the leg rather than a complete amputation, but that route is more expensive. Additionally, we need further orthopedic consult to ensure the pin route is in fact the best chance for him. If not, our furry friend may become a tripod! This fundraiser will either go directly to his medical care & recovery (estimate based on treatment plan, subject to vary as his needs evolve, includes food & recovery enrichment like chew toys) OR to the rescue that sponsors him & his medical care. I will foster him until he finds his forever home, and he will have training during this time once he’s well enough to do so! Kennedy (professional dog trainer) will donate training during his fostering period. The current plan is to foster him for several months until he’s completely healthy.

Although I’m hoping to partner with a rescue, I want him to get care as quickly as possible so he can be out of pain and we can get him into a forever home. Hence, I’m going the fundraiser route to give me the financial confidence to make the best decisions for this dog as soon as I can and hopefully attract a partner rescue to help find a forever home.

Cost Break Down:
  • Initial Vet Appointment, X-rays, prevention, ear & eye infection, rabies vaccine: $783.99
  • Heart Worm Treatment: $2,719.26
  • Surgical Repair of Leg: ~$3,000
  • Vaccinations & Neuter: ~$1,000
  • Mental Enrichment, food, toys: ~$400

I will update estimates as final details come in. Anything in excess of what was spent rehabbing him will be donated to the rescue who sponsors him! (Will update with name once rescue is secured)
