Help Heal Lise: Donate to Ease Medical Expenses

On the morning of October 4th, on her way to work, my aunt Lise Thomas, was involved in a severe car accident leaving her with many injuries including a shattered pelvis, fractured kneecap, dislocated hip, 3 fractures in her lumbar spine and 1 fracture in her neck. She was rushed to Ryder Trauma Center where she underwent a 5-hour surgery to reconstruct her hip and pelvis with titanium plates and screws. Because of the fractures in her spine and neck she is currently immobile and has been in neck, full body, and leg braces the past 20 days. She is currently at the Christine Lynn Rehabilitation Center as she continues to recover.

The road to recovery is going to be long and difficult especially with all the other hardships Lise has recently been faced with. Over the last year, she has endured the tribulations of a challenging divorce, following more than 25 years of marriage. Due to financial strain and the state of her health, she was forced to sell her home, where she raised her two sons, and move back in with her mom. Additionally, Lise was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson's Disease this past year. Because of the Parkinson’s Disease, the healing process will be long, challenging and more complicated than it would be for a typical healthy person.

Once Lise returns home (to her mom’s house), she will require a lot of nursing care to help her with basic needs. Due to all her braces, she is unable to do things such as go to the bathroom, bathe, get dressed, etc. She will be in a wheelchair for the next several months, making her unable to perform these everyday functions without help, until her fractures heal, and she can regain mobility. She will also be requiring extensive physical therapy for months to come. Because of her immobility, and the degree of her injuries, Lise will not be able to return to work any time soon. Her medical bills and other financial obligations are also of great concern since she is now divorced and the sole provider to her children.

Lise is an amazing mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and so much more. She is a woman of God and has faith the Lord will help her heal and restore her strength. Even through all the difficulties she has faced these past few years, she has remained hopeful and steadfast.
