Karsyn is just shy of his 3rd birthday and is a preschooler in my program. As his teacher I have been blessed with his love for friends and family and life! He captures the heart of anyone who meets him. Sadly, since just before his 2nd birthday, a year ago, he has been struggling with digestive issues (possibly due to antibiotics for frequent ear infections) that have led to a severely restricted diet and worse, almost continuous abdominal and intestinal pain from gas and diarrhea with blood. Karsyn has been tested monthly due to his hemoglobin being seriously low at times from blood loss which then makes him lethargic. In an attempt to correct his health, over the last year he has been to multiple pediatric specialists, had extensive exams, labs, medications, and procedures, all to no avail. His mother and father have done further research on their own trying to find a way to get Karsyn free of pain and digestive issues...back to the smiles that came so freely before all this started. Yet nothing tried lasts or works, and just this past Tuesday February 23, after almost 3 weeks of significant blood in his diarrhea, his hemoglobin was at its lowest ever and he was immediately sent to Children's Hospital Los Angeles! He has now tested positive for C. Diff. and been put on antibiotics and had a blood transfusion to stabilize him, and a feeding tube is next. He is being kept in the hospital for at least a week and then they will do an endoscopy and colonoscopy, biopsy, and MRI or CT scan...and then hopefully will finally receive a diagnosis. All this at not even 3 years old!! :(
Karsyn's out-of-pocket medical costs for last year alone was $20,000. Now just 2 months into the new year he is at his worst and in the hospital with more medical procedures lined up for him than ever before. The costs from last year will likely be matched or exceeded and Karsyn's father, a firefighter, has been working as many extra shifts as possible trying to keep up with the overwhelming bills, while Karsyn's mother is caring for not just Karsyn and his symptoms, but also their infant daughter who just turned one a week ago. Right now though, the focus is to get Karsyn whatever is needed to pull him through this and headed back to normal health and the happy smiles that used to always be on his face anytime you looked at him. :)
Please donate ANY amount you can as every contribution helps bring Karsyn what he needs so his family can give their all to him and bring him home. Supportive comments and prayers are always welcome too! Thank you in advance for doing all you can!
