Help Heal Ellie Mae: A Soulmate in Hooves, Her Second Chance

Hi, my name is Peyten, and I rehabilitate animals. I’m the proud mom of a very special little goat named Ellie May.

Ellie May was born on October 5, 2024, and sadly, her mother rejected her at birth. From that moment on, I stepped in to care for her myself. As a baby, she lived indoors, was bottle-fed, and even slept in the bed with me. She was the sweetest little snuggle buddy and quickly became my best friend. She’s grown up since then and now lives outside where she can graze and play, but she still loves coming inside for visits and couch naps.

Several months ago, I began noticing that something wasn’t right. Despite her happy personality and healthy appetite, she started showing signs of severe anemia—her gums and eyelids became pale, and she grew weak. After countless tests and vet visits, we learned that Ellie May has a very rare autoimmune disease that has never been documented in goats before. Her immune system attacks her own red blood cells, meaning her body destroys the very cells she needs to survive.

Because this condition is so rare, she’s currently being monitored as part of ongoing veterinary research to help better understand it. Ellie May requires frequent blood transfusions, weekly vet visits, and multiple daily medications just to keep her blood levels stable. She’s also undergone a bone marrow biopsy and a liver biopsy, which have helped confirm her diagnosis and guide her treatment.

Even with everything she’s been through, Ellie May continues to fight with so much strength and love. She still greets me with her gentle bleats, climbs into my lap when she can, and melts hearts everywhere she goes.

Her ongoing care is incredibly expensive—between transfusions, bloodwork, medications, and vet visits—but I’m determined to give her every chance at life. I don’t usually ask for help, but Ellie May truly means the world to me, and she’s not just helping herself—she’s helping pave the way for future research that could save other animals too.

Your support will go directly toward her medical treatments, transfusions, lab tests, and ongoing vet care. Every donation, no matter how small, helps keep her fighting—and sharing her story helps just as much.

I truly believe soulmates come in many forms—friends, family, partners, and sometimes, animals. Ellie May is one of mine. She’s my heart, and I’ll do everything I can to make sure she lives the happy, healthy life she deserves.

Recent Update (December 2025):

Ellie May continues to visit the vet weekly for bloodwork and monitoring. Her red blood cell levels are holding steady between transfusions, and she’s responding well to her current medications. The veterinary team is planning further tests to continue studying her rare autoimmune condition and learn from her progress. She’s still bright, curious, and full of love—especially when she comes in for her favorite couch naps.
