When I found this dog, he was wandering alone in the street, looking lost and scared. His face and head were covered in open wounds, and it was clear he had been suffering for some time. He approached my car as if searching for help, but was so frightened that he ran away when another car passed by. No one in the neighborhood recognized him, and I had never seen him before. When I finally caught up to him, he climbed into my car and curled up in the passenger seat, exhausted and in pain. It broke my heart to see him in such a sad condition, desperate for comfort and safety.


We did everything we could to find his owners, but the only clue was a microchip registered to a shelter in Leesville, Louisiana. The shelter told us a little about his past, but their attempts to reach his adopters went nowhere. I took him straight to the vet, where he was treated for his wounds and given a full checkup. Sadly, the tests revealed he has both heartworms and hookworms, and the vet explained that heartworm treatment is not only urgent but also very expensive. Without help, he faces a long and difficult road to recovery.
