Robin Hart woke up in the middle of the night on September 22, 2018 to find her home in Red Oak surrounded by water. Robin and her husband Branden watched as the water came closer and closer while their son Stephin slept. Eventually the water entered their home, flooding their kitchen, laundry room, pantry, garage, a bedroom and a bathroom. Thankfully, the water began to recede before it reached the living areas and their son’s room. When the sun came up, they could see that the damage was extensive. In addition to significant flood damage to the interior of their home, their A/C unit was ruined, their fence was gone, retaining walls destroyed, and their above-ground pool and most everything in their backyard completely washed away. Days later, they experienced a major sewage backup which caused further damage to both bathrooms, bedrooms, hallways and living room.
Robin and Branden’s home was not in a flood plain, and had never flooded before. No one in their neighborhood had flood insurance, and neither did they. Their insurance carrier gave them nothing, and they also received no assistance from FEMA or any other disaster-relief organization. They estimate their total damages at roughly $26,000.
Everyone who knows Robin knows that she is an outstanding Haynes and Boone team member, and a wonderful person. The past few months have been very difficult for her and her family, but she has come in to work every day with a smile and a great attitude, never wavering in her exemplary work for our firm and our clients.
Anything you can do to help Robin and Branden and Stephin repair their home and property would be most appreciated, particularly at this time of year. Branden is doing most of the repairs and flood mitigation himself at nights and on weekends. Thank you all for considering this!
