Update 6/7:

unfortunately our sweet boy passed today after taking a hard turn for the worse. I’ve updated the goal as now I will just really be needing assistance with our ER bill, cremation, etc.

After he turned 1 and during the first 2 weeks of May, our sweet Hazelnut began to become uninterested in hard treats and playing. At the same time, we began to worry that he was not putting on enough weight as he was growing longer. While we had hoped he was just going through a wonky, awkward period in growth, we brought our boy into the vet for an exam. We received medication for fleas, ticks, and possible intestinal parasites; we were now just crossing our fingers and hoping he just had a simple case of worms.

After a day or two, I was still concerned about him and decided to run bloodwork on our boy. Unfortunately, we were given the news that Hazelnut was most likely suffering from FIP - Feline Infectious Peritonitis. This condition is something that used to be completely fatal to cats, but is now treatable by 84 days of medication plus another 84 days of observation. This treatment plus his consistent vet visits will be extremely strenuous on our finances currently.

I recently was told my school contract will not be renewed and I’ll soon be without a solid job. We are doing all that we can to make sure that our little Hazeybutt can get the best possible care, but I’m not too proud to say that we will be struggling with this situation.

Our Hazelnut is so special and came into our lives during a difficult period of our lives last year. I think this cat (plus our other babies) literally are the best things to ever happen to us; we are so lucky. I can’t imagine a world without him sleeping in my arms, giving my husband head boops after showering, or playing with his siblings again. I have and will pull funds from however I can to make sure he can live a long, happy life with us Thank you for reading about our sweet Hazelnut.
