Help Hazel Step Toward Her Goals
Donation protected
I am trying to raise money to help pay off medical bills and expenses, and also to help raise money for my school tuition.
MY STORY
Hi my name is Hazel and I am 29 years old. I proudly live in the mountain community of Big Bear Lake, located in Southern California. I've had a great ACTIVE life here in mountains hiking and biking in the summer and snowboarding and skiing in the winter. I go to school in Corona, CA every weekend to become a Certified Medical Coder! Before my "injury" happened, I was a Ski School Assistant-- helping teach kids how to ski, skiing on the job and getting paid for it!
On March 12, 2018 I was admitted to the hospital for severe abdominal pain. But when I got to the hospital, I had NO control of the lower half of my body. The doctors had no clue what was going on!
After many, many tests, I was sent home after 5 days without a medical explanation, still not being able to walk,in severe pain, and still very sick. Luckily, I have a loving husband that has taken great care of me during my recovery.
MY CONDITION
TRANSVERSE MYELITIS. It is an inflammation of the spinal cord that left me unable to walk. It is a very rare nerve disorder where my body's cells attacked my own spinal cord.
In a country populated by 325 million people, it only affects 1,400 people in the United States a year, and I am one of those (un)lucky few!
After many days and weeks of waiting for an explanation, I was finally diagnosed with this disorder on April 16, 2018.
With the love and help of my family, friends, and many doctors by my side, I am slowly taking steps toward my recovery every day.
I would like to thank everyone in advance for helping me towards my goal. Even if I get $1, I will be very grateful!
