Hazel, our beloved dog, has been a part of our family for three years. Before we rescued her, she was tied up in a garage with three other dogs, without toys, blankets, or comfort. Since joining our family, Hazel has shown nothing but love and loyalty. She’s always been a protector, especially for our daughter—standing guard by her door during uncertain times and bringing us peace with her caring nature. Hazel’s playful spirit and her endless kisses and cuddles have made her a cherished companion, and her resilience after her difficult start in life inspires us every day.

This morning, Hazel managed to slip out of her collar and jump the chain fence while outside for her usual playtime. After a frantic search, we learned from our neighbors in the National Guard that Hazel had been hit by a truck. The driver showed no remorse, but Hazel somehow made her way back home, injured and scared. We rushed her to the vet, where we were told her leg might need to be amputated. Thankfully, after x-rays, the vet determined that surgery could save her leg, though her recovery will be long and challenging. Hazel is scheduled for surgery in the morning, and we hope to bring her home on Wednesday.

Hazel has taught our family a love that’s hard to describe. She’s brought us comfort and security, especially knowing she’ll always protect our daughter. The cost of her surgery and medication is more than we can manage on short notice, and we’re asking for help to give Hazel the chance to heal and continue being the loving, protective dog we know and adore.
