On Easter, our sweet girl Hazel suddenly became very sick, and our world flipped upside down.
We brought Hazel home in April 2022 when she was just six months old, shortly after the heartbreaking and sudden loss of our rescue Husky, Leia, to heart problems. Hazel came into our lives during one of the hardest times and quickly became such a special part of our family. Since then, we’ve loved her endlessly and included her in every part of our lives. She’s been our sweet, gentle angel—always a little scared of everything, but full of love—and we would do absolutely anything for her.
What started as a normal day quickly turned into an emergency. Hazel began showing signs of going into shock and had to receive an emergency blood transfusion just to stabilize her.
The transfusion helped a little, but her levels are still dangerously low. The vets believe she may be bleeding somewhere in her GI tract, but they still don’t know what caused it. Now we are going into day three of her hospitalization with still no clear answers.
They suspect it may be an autoimmune disease, but without further testing, they won’t be able to determine a conclusive diagnosis or the best way to treat it. Hazel is going to need another blood transfusion, and potentially more, along with continued testing and in-hospital care.
They performed an ultrasound, but it didn’t give clear answers. There’s also a chance she may need to be transferred to a specialty facility with an internal medicine doctor if they can’t get to the root of this soon.
So far, her emergency care has already reached $15,000, and the costs are continuing to rise quickly. This could turn into a long-term, ongoing battle depending on what the doctors find.
Hazel is more than just a dog—she’s our family. Watching her fight like this is heartbreaking, but we’re holding onto hope and doing everything we can for her.
We never want to be in a position where money is the reason we lose our sweet girl. We’re asking for help to cover these overwhelming and unexpected veterinary expenses so we can continue giving Hazel every chance to recover.
Anything you can give, share, or even just positive thoughts means the world to us.
Thank you for supporting Hazel and helping us fight for her. ❤️
