My name is Hazel. My girlfriend Hypatia and I are in desperate need of help. The last year has been a constant stream of crisis and hardship. We have barely managed to scrape by so far, but it has been at the cost of both our mental and physical health.

I’m currently dealing with debilitating pain from a spinal injury. I’m fortunate that it is not life-threatening, but it has left me unable to work and functionally disabled.

I have spent months powering through the pain to keep doing my job, as we have no savings and live paycheck to paycheck. But this month, my body hit its limit. Doing my job has become genuinely unbearable agony, and I had no choice but to take medical leave or risk losing the job entirely.

I am now hopefully on a path to recovery. After several doctor's visits and an MRI, the problem was identified and a treatment suggested. Unfortunately, my insurance has dragged its feet at every stage, delaying both the scan and treatment.

As time goes on and things become more dire every day, we are doing what we can to make ends meet. But every day that passes, I watch my bank account count down to 0, and my mental health takes another hit. We are both desperate and scared. We will face eviction if my treatment and recovery are delayed much longer. As a pair of trans women in 2025, the prospect of homelessness is terrifying and potentially deadly.
