Hayward and Trish, both in their 80s, have spent the last 25 years caring for and renting a cabin affectionately known as Fish Pond. On Sunday, December 28th, tragedy struck when Fish Pond burned to the ground. Thankfully, Hayward and Trish were not inside at the time, but they lost everything—left only with the clothes on their backs. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

I have known Hayward for 50 years, and she has been the primary caregiver to Trish. I have known Trish for almost as long, and together they have shared a life filled with love and kindness for 45 years. They are both part of my chosen family, and I love them dearly, as do their many friends and family. Both Hayward and Trish are incredibly giving people who have touched the lives of everyone around them.
