Help Hayley live with Dignity

Hi, my name is Kirsty and I'm fundraising for my sister Hayley.
In January 2022, my sister’s life changed forever. At just 41 years old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer—a battle that tested her courage, strength, and resilience. From February to August 2022, she underwent grueling chemotherapy, followed by surgery in September and radiotherapy in December. Against all odds, in early 2024, she was given the all-clear from cancer—a moment of relief we had all been praying for.
But the relief was heartbreakingly short-lived.
Soon after, she developed severe liver issues, beginning with jaundice caused by medication-related autoimmune responses. Her health declined rapidly, and in January 2024, she was told she needed a liver transplant. Tragically, transplants are not permitted unless patients have been cancer-free for at least two years. The likelihood that she could survive long enough to qualify was devastatingly low.
To make matters worse, in January 2024, she was also diagnosed with steroid-induced diabetes, which in March was reclassified as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes Type 1. Despite changes in medication that brought some improvement to her liver function, her health continued to decline. Frequent hospitalizations for complications became her new normal.
In September 2024, she was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC)—a rare and serious condition that will inevitably lead to liver failure. In November, further diagnoses came in rapid succession: colitis, ulcerative colitis, and an underactive thyroid, all of which compounded her existing health struggles. Once again, doctors at King’s Hospital are discussing the possibility of a liver transplant.
The Impact on Her Life
My sister’s life has been turned upside down by her health struggles. Once an active, vibrant person who worked tirelessly in the social sector supporting children, she is now unable to engage in any physical activity and lives in constant, chronic pain. Her frequent hospital stays and mounting complications have made even the simplest aspects of daily life a struggle.
Despite her unwavering determination and courage, her prognosis remains uncertain. At just 43 years old, she has been forced to confront the reality of a much shorter life expectancy while coping with the devastating physical, emotional, and financial toll of her illnesses.
Why We Need Your Help
Although she has worked hard her entire life, her ability to work has been severely impacted. At some point she will no longer receive a salary, leaving her unable to cover essential costs, including:
Mortgage Payments: Ensuring she can stay in her home during this difficult time.
Travel Expenses: Regular trips to King’s Hospital for appointments and treatments.
Daily Living Costs: Groceries, utilities, and other necessities.
Our family is doing everything we can to support her for the near future, but the financial burden will become overwhelming. We’re reaching out to ask for your help in easing her financial strain so she can focus on her health and quality of life.
How Your Support Will Help
Your donation, no matter the amount, will make a meaningful difference in my sister’s life. It will allow her to maintain stability during this challenging time, ensure she can access the care she needs, and provide her with some peace of mind as she navigates the road ahead.
We know times are tough for everyone, but if you can spare even a small amount—or share this campaign with your network—we would be forever grateful.
My sister has dedicated her life to helping others. Now, she needs our help. Thank you for standing with her and giving her the chance to face these challenges with hope and dignity.
