This fundraiser has been established to raise funds to support Hayley through her current health battle. As most people know, Hayley has a devastating history of illness, and unfortunately her battle continues again. While she is not one to ever ask for hand-outs, we believe this small gesture has the ability to take the financial burden off her during treatment – particularly due to her having to close her own business down due to illness.
Hayley has spent the last month in Flinders Medical Centre, 800km away from her family, with multiple medical complications. Her treatment plan so far has included heavy IV medications, surgeries, scans, stomach drains, catheters, and nasal gastric tubes. She has been advised she has likely developed a bowel disease and in addition complex bladder disorder, loosing over 15% of her body weight. Her liver is struggling to function, and her heart is not coping very well with the additional pressures. Unfortunately, the pressure of illness has also triggered her diagnosis of anorexia nervosa to return.
While Hayley is currently inpatient in a public hospital, due to extensive waitlists and the devastating effects of covid-19 on the healthcare system, she has been recommended to go private for a rapid response to her needs; including surgeons, surgeries, and in-patient clinics. This means, once she is deemed medically stable, she will have to choose between waiting a minimum 6 months to see specialists and continue to be unwell or pay thousands out of pocket to see private surgeons and clinics to keep her stable.
We appreciate this time of year can be difficult for all, so do not expect everyone to donate. However, if you have a moment to spare some change to release the financial burden off her due to required medical treatment, that would be greatly appreciated. Hayley has also stated that a percentage of the donations will be donated to the Butterfly Foundation to facilitate better outcomes for those suffering with Eating Disorders, specifically in SA.
In the words of Hayley, she is striving to thrive.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
