I have secured a full scholarship to pursue a PhD at the University of Bristol starting in September 2026. I have a few months left to raise the funds for my pre-arrival costs, visa, NHS surcharge, and first month's living expenses before my place is lost. Please help me get there.
_____________
My story:
"Don't worry about us. Just follow your dreams and rebuild your life through education."
My parents told me this while living in a tent, facing unimaginable danger and hardship every single day.
Hi, my name is Hayat Ghunaim. I am a Palestinian from Gaza, currently displaced with part of my family in Egypt.
Against all odds, I poured every ounce of my energy into my studies and recently completed my Master's degree with distinction. Now, I have the opportunity of a lifetime: an unconditional offer to pursue a PhD in Management at the University of Bristol, commencing September 2026.
I am incredibly excited about this opportunity. I have heard so much about Bristol, a city known for its diversity, its warmth, and its welcoming community, and the University of Bristol's academic reputation speaks for itself. I cannot wait to be part of it.
Even though my tuition is fully covered and I will receive a monthly university stipend, I still face significant financial difficulties covering my pre-arrival costs. As a displaced person in Egypt with no savings and no family financial support, I am unable to cover these mandatory upfront expenses:
NHS Immigration Health Surcharge: £3,104
UK Student Visa Fee: £558
One-way flight from Egypt to the UK: £500
First month rent and essential living costs (before my first stipend payment): £1,838
Total: £7,000
Every penny raised will go directly into my personal bank account to pay these specific costs. Nothing else.
I have fought incredibly hard to reach this point. I want to honour my parents' sacrifice and show them and myself that no matter what is destroyed, we can rebuild our lives from the ground up.
This fundraiser is supported by Gaza40+, Bristol Leftist Collective, and Bristol Palestine Solidarity Campaign.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for believing that education is worth protecting.
With immense gratitude,
Hayat Ghunaim
