Yesterday, Havana was her usual happy self, but this morning everything changed. She woke up unable to walk, and I had to carry her outside, where she was so disoriented she couldn’t control her bladder. After rushing to work to arrange for a substitute (I’m a teacher), I hurried home to find Havana had thrown up and was still completely unresponsive. We took her to urgent care, and then to a specialty animal hospital, where my wife Carley met me. Havana was taken back immediately, and the doctors started running tests. Blood work came back okay, but they still couldn’t give us answers. They gave her medicine to reduce possible brain swelling and to stop her from convulsing. Through it all, Havana remained unresponsive, and we could only wait with her until the neurologist arrived. When they tried to help her stand, she was still off balance and quickly collapsed again. The doctors explained our options for her care, and we chose to have her stay overnight to be stabilized and start treatment, hoping it would give her the best chance to recover. Right now, Havana is still unresponsive, and we have no clear answers about what is wrong. We’re home, waiting and hoping for good news, but the financial burden is overwhelming. Havana is part of our family, and it’s heartbreaking to face both the fear of losing her and the stress of these unexpected costs. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to us and help us focus on giving Havana the care she needs to recover. Thank you for reading our story and for any kindness you can share.
