This is Hattie. She is 3 months old.

Yesterday, she was diagnosed with FIP. This is a serious illness, but it is curable. It is very aggressive and progresses quickly. The treatment she needs is expensive, and difficult to get. She needs weekly screenings at the vet to monitor her progress. However, with proper treatment and care, she has a very real chance of recovering completely and living a long, happy, healthy life. I so badly want to give her that chance.

Although we have only been together a couple of months, Hattie has been the brightest spot in an exceedingly difficult period in my life. I found her the same week my mom was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer. She has helped me get through the worst days. She always has so much to chat about and she loves to play. She is certainly a Velcro kitty; always with me wherever I go. She loves walking on her leash and she’s made lots of friends at the McKinney Farmer’s Market and Town Lake Park!

I cannot afford the treatment she needs. Without it, she will die: full stop. But with it, she could make a complete recovery. I was able to scrape together enough for a 7-day supply. She needs an 84-day supply, but I bought us some time.

Right now, her belly is full of fluid—all of the protein in her body is in this fluid, causing her muscles to be underdeveloped; she’s wasting away while her belly is ballooning. There is fluid in her lungs as well; this could cause her to essentially drown on land. She is at risk of seizures, and her liver is tanking. But with medication she's got an 80-90% chance of a complete recovery. She has to go to the vet weekly for additional testing and monitoring. Her immune system is very weak and the risk of additional complications is high.

Even as sick as she is, she is making biscuits on me right now--she doesn't know when to clock out, lol! I know she is a fighter, and I'm ready to rumble.
