Update: The situation has worsened

I wanted to share a difficult update about Hasan and his family.

After weeks of struggle, Hasan had managed to build a simple roof to give his family some protection following their displacement and the destruction of their home. With the help of kind people, he finally felt a small sense of hope that his children might have some shelter.

Sadly, after heavy rain, the roof collapsed. The structure could not withstand the water, and with it, the family’s only water barrel was also destroyed. Once again, Hasan and his children are left exposed, without safe shelter, clean water, or reliable access to food.

Hasan is exhausted, physically and emotionally. He speaks of the emotional toll living like this is having, trying to remain strong for his children, living in unimaginable fear.

Funds raised here will help Hasan urgently with:

Food for his children

Clean water

Temporary shelter materials

Basic daily survival needs

Hi, I’m Cath and I live in Leeds with my fiancé and two daughters. I have a safe home, food in my cupboards, and a warm bed to sleep in. I am very fortunate to have been born in a country free from war, and I feel deeply for the families that are not so lucky. I have been talking to a gentleman who is living in Gaza at the moment, and the situation his family are in gets worse every day. I’ve set up this go fund me because I’m hoping to support Hasan and his family, who have been displaced by the ongoing crisis in Palestine.

Hasan is a devoted father of three young children. They had been living in a makeshift tent on the beach, a flimsy shelter that barely held against the intense sun, wind and rain. You may have seen the videos I shared: their tent torn open, flooded with seawater, their few belongings soggy and sweeping away. Hasan was recently able to rent a room, to shelter his family, but this residence has now been bombed. Hasan is living amongst rubble with no resources to support his family. They are starving and need food.

I’ve been donating what I can, a little here and there, to charities and directly to individuals. But the reality is heartbreaking: while some aid does make it through, much of it is seized or resold at inflated prices. This is what Hasan and his family are up against.

Recently, Hasan posted a plea on his Instagram story. He was trying to sell his mobile phone, his last connection to the outside world, just to buy a little food for his children. I can’t begin to fathom the despair of having nothing, and still having to give up the one thing that lets you reach out for help.

There is suffering in so many places, and I know we can’t help everyone. But something in my heart keeps pulling me to help this family, to do something, however small, that can bring them relief and restore a bit of dignity to their lives.
