Help us do the right thing

My name is Kristin and I found out about this family from a charity I have been donating to for a few years; No One Left Behind (NOLB). NOLB evacuates and resettles U.S. allies who helped the U.S. with its mission in Afghanistan after 9/11. When we pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021, we left our allies and their families in the hands of the Taliban. With U.S. protection gone, the Taliban targeted and murdered locals who assisted us. I am helping a family who recently fled this targeted violence and I am asking for your help to get them resettled.

A bit about the family

Hasibah's husband worked at the U.S. embassy for almost 10 years. When the U.S. pulled out of Afghanistan in 2021, we also closed our embassy. When the Taliban took over, they murdered Hasibah's husband. Hasibah was alone and in hiding, caring for her five children: three girls and two boys. They applied for Special Immigration Visas in 2016 and spent years waiting while the applications bounced around the system. Last week, they got their visas and their flights (paid for by family and charities) and they made a harrowing, dramatic trip to the USA.

Hasibah and her family arrived with absolutely nothing. They are currently sleeping on her brother's floor in the Seattle area. We applied for food benefits and are searching charities who are willing to help. Most don't help with long-term housing, however. And while they need just about everything, they mostly need a reliable place to live so their family can sort schools and work.

I am launching this GoFundMe page to help them get into their first apartment. We have one located, but they need help with a few months rent.

I have no doubt that given the chance, they will thrive here. They just need a boost. I hope you can donate and help them get started -- anything helps. Help us get these kids into a home and schools, and the mom and older son stable so they can start working.
