In 2021, Harvey Mann, popular and sociable 72-year-old musician, softball player and a friend to many, had both his legs amputated as a result of a long battle with diabetes.

Expenditures for mobility equipment and accessibility modification s to the family home have created a significant strain on finances.

Friends of Harvey - John & Brenda Thompson, Murray & Mary Lou Schmidt and Bill & Jacquie Ballagh - are collaborating to encourage support for Harvey and his family .

BACKGROUND - Harvey was born in Bluevale, just east of Wingham, Ontario. In 1967 he moved to Kitchener-Waterloo and became employed with Electrohome. In 1978 Harvey moved to Midland, accepting a management position at TRW, He met Cathy, they married and have a son Steven.

SPORTS - Harvey was active in community sports, coaching the Kitchener Schwaben Club hockey team, pitching for the Waterloo CHYM'rs fastball team, continuing to pitch fastball in Midland and serving as president of the Simcoe Rural Fastball League.

MUSIC - At age 15, Harvey commenced entertaining, along with his father Ross, as a member for seven years with the renowned CKNX Radio-TV Ranch Boys.

After the move to Midland, Harvey spent time as a musician with two bands entertaining in North Simcoe County. In the mid-80's he established the Mr. Sound Mann disc jockey service.

HEALTH - In the mid-80's Harvey was diagnosed with diabetes, a disease that his father and mother had also endured. Complications resulted in operations on his eyes and a disability with his feet. Further diagnosis resulted in the need for dialysis that continues to the present time.
In 2020, diabetic ulcers occurred and in January 2021, infection invaded Harvey's body. He spent four months in hospital in Orillia (no visitors due to Covid-19) and in two separate operations, both legs were amputated.

CHALLENGE - Several pieces of medical equipment and accessibility modifications for the family home have created a significant strain on the family budget.

You can help by providing a much appreciated donation through Go Fund Me and circulating this message through your social media network.  Our hope is to achieve the goal to cover the equipment and residential modifications, and contribute to the purchase of the specialized accessible van.
