When Hurricane Melissa tore through the Caribbean this fall, Jamaica was among the hardest hit. Landslides, flooding, and the destruction of homes and crops have left thousands of families struggling to rebuild their lives. More than 70 percent of Jamaica’s parishes reported major infrastructure and crop losses, and an estimated 15,000 people were displaced from their homes. For many rural communities, it will take months—if not years—to recover.

Among those affected are the hard‑working Jamaican international farm workers from Randsland Farms here in Nova Scotia. Our farmers come to Canada year after year, spending over half the year away from their loved ones to support their families back home. They harvest the food that fills our tables and help sustain local agriculture with quiet dedication and pride.

Now, as they prepare to return home for the season, they are heading back to uncertainty. Many will arrive to find their homes damaged or destroyed, communities still without steady power, and limited access to clean water or basic supplies. What was meant to be a homecoming filled with relief and rest has become a journey back into personal hardship that extends far into their communities.

This GoFundMe campaign is a chance for us, as their Canadian friends and community, to give back. Every contribution will go directly toward supporting these workers and their families—helping them repair homes, replace essentials, and stabilize their households after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa.

They have cared for our communities through their labor and generosity of spirit. It’s our turn to stand with them. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help our Jamaican farm workers return home with hope, and the means to rebuild.

Together, small acts of kindness can make a world of difference.
