Hi my name is Mandy and my friend Angela's Whippet Harry has been hit by a car (through no fault of her own) and is now receiving emergency veterinary care.
Angela has walked my two border terriers for over 12 years and I would trust her with my dogs lives.
Even though he has a yellow "nervous dog" lead he was approached by another dog and despite being on his lead, in his panic he broke free and ran into the road where he was hit by a car.
Harry is fighting really hard, and we're doing everything we can to get him the treatment he needs to recover.
As you can imagine the vet bills are mounting quickly, and although he is insured, scans, surgery, medication and round the clock care, this all comes at a cost. It is currently £9,000 and we are hoping that his insurance will cover the first £3,500.
He has had an operation to repair the internal damage to his diaphragm and lungs. Harry came through the surgery very well, his diaphragm was in a better condition than initially expected and there was no other injuries to organs. He's responding really well and they may be taking the chest drains out later today. There is still a major concern over the extent of the damage to his spine, he has a fractured vertebrae but he does have sensation in his back legs and we are hoping that he will recover enough to be able to walk and lead a normal doggy life.
We're asking for any help you can give, no matter how small, to support Harry's road to recovery.
Harry is the sweetest, gentlest soul, he really didn't deserve this the day before his 5th birthday. Your donation will go directly towards his veterinary bills and ongoing care and physiotherapy. Every bit helps and we are so grateful for your kindness.
Thank you so much for supporting Harry.
