Hi, my name is Harper and I am a sixth grader at Lincoln Middle School. I have been accepted into the No Barriers Service-Learning trip to Costa Rica for 2019. I will be traveling with my 7thgrade class in November for 10 days. I am excited that I was accepted because I will be helping local Costa Rican people while also learning from them. I have always liked helping people because it makes them feel good while also making me feel good.
This will be my first trip out of the United States. I am nervous but also excited for this opportunity to expand my world knowledge and point of view. I believe with travel comes a personal knowledge of others. It is through knowledge and understanding of others we can make the world a more compassionate place. The world needs more compassion and understanding right now. By understanding and sharing experiences with others, we are able to become a more peaceful world.
I am most excited to travel to Costa Rica for these shared experiences-both with my classmates and with the people of Costa Rica. One of the shared experiences is through practicing another language. While I am nervous about practicing Spanish with people who speak Spanish as their first language, I am also excited to see if I can actually communicate in another language. Having this ability will broaden my community both when traveling and at home.
By donating, you can help me with my first international service-learning trip. Hopefully this will be one of many to come! I truly appreciate any donation amount. If you are unable to donate, please share!
