Harmony Roberts is a single black mom battling homelessness with her daughter, Lyric, in Los Angeles, CA. This fundraiser was started for her and is managed by Max Kornfield and although I am listed as the organizer, please be aware that every single cent will go directly to Harmony to cover first + last month of rent (security deposit), and moving expenses.
We are hoping to get Harmony moved in by May 1st or 15th, so sharing this fundraiser is urgent!
Anything past the $3,900 goal will help Harmony cover costs for therapy for both Harmony and Lyric going forward. Battling homelessness for over a year has been extremely traumatic for both of them.
Without homelessness, this would already be a deeply distressing year in the midst of a pandemic. On top of struggling with homelessness already, Harmony had left an abusive relationship, lost her job and found another, and has started driving for Uber to raise extra money, all while she continues trying to support her daughter doing well in school and help anyone and everyone else that she can.
However, this compounded situation has been profoundly stressful, fearing that her whole life will crumble and crush her and her daughter every single day is devastating for both of them, it is deeply traumatic for both Harmony and Lyric, it is a huge strain constantly scrambling to gather funds day to day for daily costs ($85 for the hotel every single day, which is approximately $2,550 a month, + food, toiletries, and car rental fees for the vehicle Harmony uses to drive for Uber).
Harmony is aiming to pay $1,000-1,300 for rent every month once she secures housing. With her job and driving for Uber, this would be completely doable, but while being drained of $85 every single day, there is no way she can possibly save money to break the cycle of hotel bills. Not without help, and that's where you come in!
Please, if you have anything to spare, she is so incredibly worthy and keeps fighting tooth and nail in spite of mounting mental illness, physical and mental fatigue. Securing housing would be a turning point for Harmony in her darkest hours, seeing that others care not only for her but for her daughter as well.
If you're unable to donate, please take a minute (or a few minutes!) to share this post to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, Tumblr, your Discord server, directly to people you know who are supporting black lives or participating in mutual aid, anyone, please reach out to them! Everything helps and sharing this fundraiser makes all the difference!
Please imagine that you are watching your mother struggle to keep a roof over your head, the person you love and trust to care for you is struggling, you are trying to be strong for her and make her proud but there's nothing you can do to help her as a child. Please imagine that you are trying desperately to keep your child safe and secure, make sure she has everything she could possibly need and more but in spite of everything you do, even working full time, driving extra for Uber, and asking strangers for help, it is still not enough and you can't see a way out. That is a crushing weight to be under for over 12 months, constantly.
Harmony has nearly nothing but she still makes room to help others within her means, it hurts her pride to ask for help but she desperately needs it and she deserves it, she has been so strong during this crisis in her life but needs help to break out of it.
If you have more to give after donating, please consider sending Harmony money on venmo, paypal, or cashapp to help her with ongoing costs.
