Help Harley heal!

On December 11 Harley lost his vision quite suddenly. He had been previously diagnosed with chronic kidney disease and was 2 weeks away from his next round of blood work. Unfortunately, high blood pressure caused a hemorrhage behind his eyes and his retinas detached. The ophthalmologist that saw him at the ER said it's not likely that he will regain his vision.

I was pretty freaked out, to be honest, and the first few hours of Harley reacting to it were awful. But within a few hours of being back home from the ER he figured out how to find his food, water, litter, and boxes. My heart leaped this morning when he jumped up on my rather high bed to climb into his most favorite box. Animals are amazing. Harley is a blind icon of 2020 I didn't know I needed.

I'm raising funds to help pay back Harley's friends that are letting me charge this emergency visit and his follow up visit to their credit card, in addition to whatever is needed to treat his condition and give him the best life with whatever time he's got left. Any significant overages will go to supporting other animals in need.

I stumbled across Harley online just days after losing my best buddy Macho on June 3, 2020. I was grieving and getting rid of my cat supplies, because there could be no replacement for the cat that was in my life from my 20s to my 40s, from Michigan to Boston, through all my human loves, triumphs, and defeats.

But I was moved by Harley's story. He'd lost his companion too and was picked up by a local rescue after his human passed away, along with his cat siblings. I figured we'd go in together, united by this loss, for whatever time he had remaining as a 15-year old pure bred with significant issues. This is the photo that really did me in! (More photos at @itsokharley on Instagram!)

Of course, I hoped that I'd have time to prepare for these expenses because he was reportedly doing well. Sometimes you gamble on love, and how can you regret it?

I know that many of own human community is fundraising for folks who are unemployed due to the pandemic (and their pets, lets not forget!) but I know that Harley's got many special friends that will want to make sure he's taken care of and his needs met.

Thank you!
Tiffany
