Harley, my friend's beloved horse, was leased out to a family who owned a farm. Their young daughter showed Harley, but unfortunately, they were not feeding him properly. Over time, Harley lost so much weight that the family finally notified my friend about his condition. When she saw Harley, she panicked and called me for help. I immediately reached out to a wonderful trainer who picked up Harley and called her vet to examine him. Harley was close to death in the middle of a harsh Michigan winter.

I had previously boarded Harley at my farm and cared for him for 15 years. He was always an “easy keeper” and a delight to be around, with a fun personality and goofy faces. Harley was gentle and a good buddy to all the other horses at my stable. After I retired and sold my farm, my friend leased him to the woman whose family sadly neglected him. Now, Harley is recovering, but he needs special feeds and ongoing vet care. Boarding him is expensive, and we are doing everything we can to give him the best chance at a full recovery.
