, my name is Harley Barrett. This is embarrassing asking for help through here, but I didn’t know what else to do. I recently got into a car accident. It was about 2 weeks ago. My fiancée and I just started getting our lives together to build a family and this happened... We were on our way home at 10:40 pm in Lexington, MS. We were roughly 10 minutes away from home. A raccoon ran across the bridge we were driving on. We’re from New York, first off, so we’re not used to animals running across highways; we’re definitely not used to them crossing bridges. My fiancée and I didn’t wanna hit the little guy, so we swerved. The little guy backtracks, we swerve again. This time we run him over, and the car bounces around from side to side like it was the ball in a pinball machine. We get out of the car, and I’m telling my fiancé the car doesn’t look so bad, don’t worry, it’s fixable. This is not going to stop us from achieving ours goals and dreams.

He decides to walk around the car as I’m saying this to look at the car. As he’s walking around the car and I’m saying this to him, a car comes flying outta nowhere and slams dead into our car. It causes our automobile to go flying in the air towards us; it missed me by 2 inches. Now the car is totaled.

The following morning, we had orientation to start work at Peco Foods, a chicken plant. We had no car to get there. You need a car anywhere in Mississippi; there’s no sort of public transportation, and we don’t know anyone. Luckily, my mom lent us her car to get to the orientation the following day so we can start work. Two days after the accident, my fiancé gets picked up for an old bench warrant. Earlier that day of the accident, we had gone to court. Our landlord wants us evicted, and our lease is up. The judge tells us we have to pay $1600 by the 24th of October, or we must go. My husband ends up coming out of jail Monday, the 27th of October. I was evicted while he was in jail because he had control of the money, and I had no contact with him. We are now homeless. We’re staying at my mom’s house for the moment while we figure something out. We also just both started work and have no way of getting to work. We’ve used whatever money we had saved to pay people to help us move and transport us from place to place because we have no car. I’m 31 years old, he’s 40. We have no kids, and all we wanna do is get settled into a place of our own with a car of our own to focus on work and build a family. We both want kids, and every time we’re close to getting our feet planted, something happens.

We are fundraising to get a car and a place to live so we can focus on work and build a family. Funds will be used to buy a vehicle and towards a place to live.
