The Incident and the Injury
A year ago, on 30th November 2019, Haris was shot in the neck while trying to save his friend from a gang of kidnappers. There were four kidnappers and all of them were armed. Haris tried to fight them off and refused to let them succeed until they shot him in the neck and fled with his friend. The friend was later released after ransom.
Miraculously, some men nearby heard the gunshots and found him and rushed him to the hospital where he fought for his life day and night. He was treated for multiple injuries including a collapsed lung and broken spinal cord to name a few. He underwent multiple surgeries and stayed in the hospital for well over two months. He did recover from all his other injuries; however, the bullet damaged the spinal cord beyond repair, which unfortunately left him paralyzed from his chest down.
Road to Recovery
Haris has since visited multiple doctors and have been continuously doing physical therapy, but none of the conventional ways have been helpful. After months of desperate research and visiting almost every specialist in Pakistan, Haris decided to expand his options and look beyond conventional treatments. He then came across a procedure known as Stem Cell Therapy. This procedure will allow the use of stem cells to treat the condition. Stem Cell therapy is widely used for multiple conditions but using it for a Spinal Cord Injury is fairly new and experimental, therefore, it is only performed in a few countries in the world right now. Haris is aware that this procedure is no miracle and it cannot reverse the injury, but it has published improvements in bladder and/or bowel function, and increased muscle control, which is way more than any other treatment has done so far. Haris sent his case to the Stem Cell Institute in Panama, where the doctors looked at his files and accepted his case. They have provided us with the plan, costs, and timeline.

Costs
Haris is thrilled that the Stem Cell Institute has accepted his case and they see potential in him to recover. Unfortunately, the cost that comes with this treatment is way out of his budget. The procedure alone is around $30,000 and he then has to be enrolled in a very extensive physical therapy right after the procedure, which will add additional costs, and not to mention all the travel and accommodations he would need to make, all this will add up to around $40,000. Doctors have given him less than 3 months to collect these funds to be able to have this procedure. His family has already exhausted all their finances helping him with his initial treatments and on-going recovery, and they desperately need your help now, which is the reason why they decided to start this GoFundMe page and share his story with the world.
