At around 7:00pm on Wednesday 29th October 2025, a close family friend — a hardworking single mum — suffered every homeowner’s worst nightmare when a fire tore through her and her 11-year-olds son’s home in Granary Way off Blackbridge Lane. Their two much-loved dogs (Jackson and Alfie) were trapped inside, but thanks to the quick thinking and bravery of a neighbour who had a spare key and heard the alarms, they were rescued just in time. Thankfully mum and son were out, and everyone is safe — but the house and its contents are severely damaged.
As a Type 1 diabetic and registered disabled, she already faces daily health challenges and can only work part time due to complications. Finances have always been tight, and without contents insurance, this tragedy has left her in an incredibly difficult position. The fire caused extensive smoke and toxic damage, and the professional clean-up team has confirmed she now needs electrical rewiring, plastering, a completely new kitchen and bathroom, and total redecoration before she, her son and two dogs can return home. They have literally lost everything.
Right now, she’s paying for both her mortgage and temporary accommodation — something that’s simply not sustainable. Despite everything, she’s doing her best to stay positive and provide stability for her son and dogs.
We’re asking the Horsham community to come together to help her get back on her feet. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference — helping to cover essential repairs, temporary living costs, and the many everyday items that have been lost.
Please let's show this family they are not alone in this, and help them rebuild their home so they can return in time for Christmas.
