Hi-- I'm Susie and my dear friends, Elia and Julio, are in a fairly desperate situation. Both are incredibly hard working-- Elia as a housecleaner and caregiver and Julio as a farmworker. They were forced to move out of their rental home 4 months ago and couldn't afford another rental. A friend gave them a trailer which Julio's boss allowed them to park next to a warehouse. They've lived in that trailer for 4 months without complaint even though they had no heater, no stove or fridge, no water, no functional electric plugs, etc. Julio tried unsuccessfully to fix all of these things. Living there became impossible with the onset of winter-- the trailer was leaking and freezing. Although they couldn't afford it, they took out a $31,000 loan to buy a travel trailer to live in. They are now in debt and paying 16.74% interest on that loan. Elia has only been paid about 1/2 of her caregiver salary for the past two months, yet she continues her regular schedule of caring for a 90 year old man. I admire Julio and Elia for their hard work, generosity and honesty. Money earned in this fundraiser will allow them to pay off most of their loan and help them live comfortably.
UPDATE ON 6 JAN. 2024-- Many thanks to all who have contributed so far. Please continue to share this fundraiser/story in as many places as you can. GREAT news-- i was able to reduce the goal amount of the fundraiser by $11,000. This is because Julio and Elia were able to get a new loan for $24,000 at 9.24%. I loaned them $7600 at NO interest as a downpayment. They, happily, paid off the $31,000 loan (16.74% interest)! It would relieve their stress tremendously to pay off the new loan as early as possible. Thank you.
