Thank you for taking the time to read our story!
This is a beyond challenging time for so many around the world, and your support through love, words, and positive thoughts is also greatly appreciated if you are not in a position to donate financially. If I am being honest, it is very uncomfortable to ask for support in this way, but I have been encouraged by friends to do so. Any amount is incredibly helpful and I hope to be able to pass it on in the future! THANK YOU!
Just before her 15th birthday, during an examination for a potential foxtail seed in her nose, the vet found a large mass in her neck. Being such a sizable tumor in a delicate area, this required immediate removal surgery as this mass would, if it had not already, start to restrict breathing, swallowing, and blood flow. Although she is older, her vet was confident in the stability of her overall well-being and her ability to survive general anesthesia for the procedure. While this mass was determined to be cancerous, removal was the correct course and her specialist recommends no further treatment necessary at this time because of the pathology results-- so prognosis is good!
As you may know, my family adopted Happy (Chesney) following the sudden death of my mother during my senior year of high school. She has been a continuous support system, bringing happiness to us over the course of the almost 15 years we have been lucky enough to have her. She is currently enjoying her sunset years in San Diego, greeting kiddos every morning at the local park and sparking smiles walking the beach at sunset. Happy has overcome many obstacles thus far in her life, and still appears to be doing well for an old pup!
This life-saving procedure came out at $2,000. This is in addition to the $5,000 for treatment and supportive care for liver issues over the course of this past year after a bad reaction to medicine, of which the drug company covered $600. I am lucky to still have employment with my environmental non-profit during this time, but like many others, my hours have been temporarily reduced. This decrease in income, combined with her care over the past year, has put me in a difficult financial situation, but I am confident that I have made the best and most humane decision for this special light in my life- Happy Dog! I am not looking to extend her life numerous years through excessive medical intervention, but do look to her vets to keep her comfortable and well-cared for in these later years of her life through reasonable supportive care. If you know me, you know that I am an avid animal lover and that this particular animal has a very special place in my heart.
Thank you to everyone that has provided love and support over this past challenging year!
Love, Happy & Jenn
