Hi, my name is Karina and I'm fundraising for my dad. He has worked hard all his life to provide for his family like many people do. He tried to give his children (I'm one of 3) the best chances and opportunities in life. He has never complained, never had a bad word to say about anybody and is an all round amazing and decent human being.
Unfortunately he has diabetes and lost his right leg due to it in 2009. A few years after the amputation the fight bagan to keep the other leg. Many people might know about diabetes and the havoc infection can reap on the body. It can be impossible to control blood sugars.
My dad is very fragile now at the age of 82. He is wheelchair bound at this stage and need the help of carers to get by. As a result he spends a lot of hours in bed, because my mother cannot lift him in or out. She slipped and fell while pushing him in a wheel chair and broke both her wrists badly as well as her hip. She has undergone a full hip replacement and has steel plates in her wrists. Her recovery will be slow and it renders her unable to help my dad.
The reason I'm fundraising is to buy a crank bed he desperately need to avoid pressure wounds that cause infection and are very difficult to heal with him. As things are, injuries keep re-acuring without proper equipment and it just make matters worse. The money will be used to buy a bed that will prevent him falling off, but it will also allow elevation of different body parts which will make it easier to prevent pressure wounds. It will also be used towards paying for a carer / nurse while they really need it.
All I want is to be able to offer him better comfort and less worry at this stage of his life.
