Help Hank Vanderscheer Fight his Brain Aneurysm
Donation protected
On Tuesday November 5th 2019 Hank was admitted into Hamilton General Hospital after a CAT scan showed he had a brain aneurysm . Hank had been suffering with major sciatic pain and headaches for the past little while but did not know what was causing them.
On Wednesday November 6, 2019, Hank underwent brain surgery to repair the aneurysm. Post surgery, Hank had to be brought back into the OR because they discovered fluid building up around the brain. They put a drain in his skull to drain the excess fluid, and he remained in the ICU. He was put in an induced coma to let him rest and had a respirator to assist his breathing. He currently has fluid in his lungs and his blood pressure and heart rate are constantly fluctuating. He is medicated to help keep him stable.
On Thursday November 7 2019, imaging came back showing change on the left side of the brain. The Neuro team was concerned that this was caused by a seizure or stroke. Hank was said to be high at risk for vasospasms. Hank was brought back into the OR to see if they could open the vessels with medication so that the brain could get enough blood. Sara (Hank's wife) was told the damage on the left side of Hank's brain was likely permanent and would most likely affect the right side of his upper body.
On November 9, 2019, Hank was brought back into the OR as the vasospasms were not being controlled with medication. They went in and put in some balloons to open up some of the vessels in his brain. This increased blood flow greatly but some of the vessels are still thin. Hank will have another CT scan on Monday November 11,2019 to reassess.
Hank has a long road of recovery ahead of him (approximately 12 - 18 months). He will be in the hospital until he is stable enough to be moved into a rehab centre. The entire family has come together to help Sara, Hank, and their two boys make it through this difficult time.
The money raised through this fund will go directly to the family to help with medical and living expenses. It will help pay bills while Hank is not working. Anything you can do to help will be much appreciated and needed. Im sure a lot of you know that Hank is the type of guy that would step up to help any of his friends and family.
