Help Hank fight the heart disease !
Donation protected
Hi y’all ! So many have asked and suggested a gofundme page to help the Hankster …….. so here it is ⬇️
let me start by saying …… we had no intentions of adopting a 3rd dog . When I heard about Hanks situation my heart just melted for his parents who lost there husky . My intentions were to keep him safe until we could locate his owners .
He was with 3 different people before me , crossing I-10, and busting out of yards. So we thought let’s help this big guy out….. Hank is an absolute doll. Very loving towards his brother and sister and incredibly gentle for being so huge .
First vet we took him too for chip scan said no chip but very serious teeth damage . At least 6 teeth cracked to the gum line , dangerously skinny , yellow stained coat and grinch feet. All signs of being kept in a kennel , and neglected . Possibly used for breeding purposes only. This was mid September .
After a month of getting to know Hank and seeing just how bad off he really was , we did not have the heart to post him up for adopters or to take to shelter……. his teeth are so bad he cannot eat hard treats or kibble. Which was kinda perfect he found us because we do the home made food. Very soft. The only problems we are having is the marking in the house and we figured from him not being fixed .
In October we decided to officially make him part of the family . We got his shots up to date , and started saving for his scheduled dental surgery with his neuter.
November 11 was the date .
Waylon had just had back surgery on the 9th, he had been home resting all weekend . Ham and I took Hank to his appointment and had planned on staying there all day because I’m that kind of dog mom.
Within an hour of being there, we got the news that something was not right . He had to be resesitated. His shots records said he was negative for heart worms just 3 weeks prior. But when they put him under for surgery he started crashing . They checked his blood work and did scans . Turns out Hank was never actually tested for heart worms and he was so infested with them his heart has takin on a different shape and all 3 valves are 3 times there normal size . He is high risk for heart attack and he is not able to go under anesthesia anytime soon. Because of this Hank is not allowed to be running the yard and doing any activity to get his heart rate elevated. DR said to make sure he’s not too cold or too hot either. It’s been rough.
For heart worms there are a few options on how to treat . But because he is older and high risk it’s very important to do the quickest route of treatment . The quickest is the more expensive one. So he is on doxycycline twice a day for 1 month . Then January 5th he’s getting the first of three injections. Each injection is very serious and he will have to stay with DR for monitoring for 8 hours after each one. She is saying Hank will feel very bad for a whole week after. & will need the entire month to recover before the next .
This treatment is expensive . We were quoted $3500 for the heart worm treatment and “IF “his heart is better in April we will continue with the neuter and Dental work under general anesthesia . That surgery is another $800 as long as they can do it at the same time instead of separate anesthesia .
We don’t know how old Hank really is , or how long he will be with us but we are doing absolutely everything we can to give him the best life ever. He’s already the bestest big brother ever and we can’t imagine the twins without him trailing behind and always ready to break up there little arguments over the toys .
If you would like to be apart of helping Hank , there are 3 ways .
1.) you can donate to his Gofundme page
2.) you can call Murphy Veterinarian hospital +1 (850) [phone redacted] and donate under the account already set up for Hank Schulz.
Or 3.) you can shop the 3-Way Aprons Album sale I posted on Friday ….
please share & pray God allows all these medications and injections to heal Hanks heart and let him live a long and happy life with us .
January 8th update :
yesterday we took Hank in for his first injection. The DR weighed him and he’s now down to 38 pounds even though we’ve been limiting excersize and over feeding . It was not safe to proceed with the injection just yet . So for right now we’re going the slow kill route . Doxy & heart work monthly preventative . It can take up to 2 years to kill the amount he has in his heart . She also said he’s still not going to be ok enough for anesthesia for awhile . So the rotted teeth have to stay for now . She prescribed pain meds but we’re being careful because he doesn't seem like he’s in pain at all. But every now and then he refuses to eat , so on those days we give it to him with spray cheese so it’s not on an empty stomach .
We’re doing our best for him. Thank y’all so much for checking in and for helping us financially take care of this sweet boy .
