Help Hanan's family flee Gaza

Hi, my name is Rachel Deutsch and I'm a social worker and writer/illustrator living in Montreal. I'm raising funds for Hanan Abu Qassam and her family to leave Gaza.

A few years ago, I illustrated Palestininian and Israeli women about their experiences living in war through an NGO The Political is Personal. I drew Hanan and how she helped a woman give birth as Israel rained bombs down on them. Now, I'm helping her flee Gaza as life has become impossible in this genocide.

Hanan is an extraordinary person. She's a paramedic/EMT and has spent her entire life helping others. She's been on the front line as a medical technician during several wars. She's witnessed terrible things and has helped people survive and heal. Most recently, she's worked for Glia, a company that prints low cost 3D medical equipment for countries such as Ukraine and Palestine.

Hanan has a son, Omar, who is one years old. She says: "I love the laugh of my only son Omar. this is the thing I love most in this life." She had him after five years of marriage and is terrified of losing him.

Hanan never wanted to leave Gaza. It's her home. Everything changed in the last months.

Because of the genocide, she has no other choice and is trying to bring her children out of the country to Egypt. It's extremely expensive to leave Gaza since each person has to pay up to $10,000 USD/person at the border of Egypt. This is completely out of reach for most Palestinians who have been out of work for months and never earned that much to begin with.

This leaves them in an impossible situation. They can't stay and they can't leave.
