Our sweet boy Hamilton is 8 years old. He’s been diagnosed with Mitral Valve Disease (MVD), which causes congestive heart failure. Simply put, one of the valves in his heart is broken - it’s letting blood flow into his left atrium and putting strain on his heart and eventually the heart will no longer be able to pump blood back into the body.

Without surgery, Hamilton’s life expectancy is only 4–9 months. With surgery, we could have many more years with him.

We’ve met with multiple cardiologists and surgeons, and after extensive imaging and testing, they’ve determined Hamilton is an ideal candidate for mitral valve surgery. His overall health is excellent, and because he is still in stage B2 of the disease (and currently showing no symptoms or suffering), his chance of a successful outcome is 96%.

The procedure, called TEER, involves placing a small clamp to help his valve close properly. It’s a minimally invasive open-chest surgery, and if successful, Hamilton would be home within a week and fully recovered in 6–8 weeks. Many dogs who have undergone this surgery not only survive, they thrive - often with renewed energy and youthfulness.

Hamilton still has so much life and love left in him. He is happy, playful, and not in pain, and we want to keep it that way.

The cost of our surgical options range between $20,000–$50,000. We are asking for help raising $15,000 to make it possible.
