Help Hamed Ashour Keep Gaza’s Story Alive
Donation protected
I’m Hamed Ashour — a poet and creative writing trainer from Gaza. Your support will help me survive (food, water, medicine, safe shelter, power, internet) and continue my work: writing, documenting daily life under war, and producing a book of war diaries to be translated so our story cannot be silenced.

Who I am
I am a poet and trainer in creative writing. My published books include:
Jarah Tujarib Nafsaha (Jordan, 2017)
This Item Is Neither Exchangeable nor Returnable (Algeria)
I’ve led workshops like “Wide Eyes” for children’s writing during the war, and my work has appeared in international publications, including Peripheries (Harvard Divinity School).
Recently, my short story “The Displaced Dog” — about a stray dog fleeing the bombing alongside displaced families — resonated deeply with readers around the world, reaching millions and becoming a symbol of shared loss and fragile hope.

What’s happening & why I’m fundraising
Months of siege brought famine, destruction, displacement, and loss. Basic things — bread, clean water, medications, electricity, and a way to charge a phone — have become uncertain and extremely expensive. Amid this, I continue to write, translate, and document, so that what’s happening is preserved as human stories, not just numbers.
Your contribution helps me:
1. Stay alive and connected: food, water, hygiene, medicine, temporary safe shelter, power/internet.
2. Create a truthful record: complete a book of daily war diaries and translate it into different languages with trusted editors and translators.
3. Keep telling the story: minimal equipment (a reliable phone/laptop battery, storage, connectivity) to record, draft, and share.

How funds will be used (estimates)
Essentials & safety (survival needs): ~40%
Power & connectivity (charging, data, devices repair): ~15%
Book production (editing, design, proofreading): ~15%
Translations & coordination: ~20%
Fees, transport, contingency: ~10%

Transparency & updates
I’ll post frequent updates (notes, photos, short videos) on spending and progress.
I’ll share milestones: finished chapters, translation stages, and publication plans.
If withdrawals have to be handled by a trusted friend/family member due to local banking restrictions, I’ll clearly name them on the campaign.

Why this matters
Every day, someone’s story disappears in the noise. Your donation keeps one voice — and the voices I carry — alive, connected, and writing. It’s not just aid; it’s an act of witness.
Please donate and share widely. Even a small gift is a lifeline. Thank you for standing with me.
