Halo, my 6-month-old English crème Golden Retriever, has always been the most energetic and loving companion. The issue began on Monday, March 16th. The first vet she was taken to on Tuesday only x-rayed her stomach and prescribed too much medication, which caused her to start having serious side effects on Wednesday. She was then given more medication to counteract the nausea and neurological problems, which alarmed me and led me to take her back to my primary vet on Thursday. After adjusting her medication, she improved, but new x-rays revealed fluid building up in her chest, putting pressure on her heart and lungs. That’s when I was told to take her to Washington State University for emergency hospitalization and chest tubes.
The doctors at Washington State University are still working hard to figure out where the bacteria is coming from and what is causing it, but it’s been a scary and exhausting time for both of us. So far, I’ve managed to cover a significant amount in vet and ER fees, but the hospital is asking for more to make sure Halo gets the treatment she needs to recover fully and not relapse. All the funds raised will go directly to Washington State University Veterinarian Hospital for her ongoing care. I’ve put everything I had set aside for a home and living expenses toward her treatment, because she means the world to me.
Most everyone knows the story of Lowkii and the splendid life I gave him. Halo is looking to live the same life and more, but right now she’s fighting for her chance. For those who haven’t met her, Halo is a mischievous little bugger who refuses to give up. It breaks my heart to see her like this, but she’s finally eating again and drinking healthy amounts of water as of yesterday, 3/20/2026. Anything you can give will help us get through this and give Halo the life she deserves. Thank you so much for your kindness and support.
