My beloved cat, Hallie — named after my Grampa Hal and Halley's Comet — whom I rescued in June of 2021 is suffering with terminal cancer. This diagnosis has left me emotionally devastated.

Hallie is 9 years old, and is the softest, most loving creature. She's a rescue from a place that saves animals from kill shelters. When I first got her she had to have all her teeth removed, which was so so stressful — but we truly bonded and became best friends through that trauma. She is a loving rascal who loves to play and snuggle equally. She is so well behaved and kind. I have been so blessed to have gotten to be her person. She is so beautiful and cute and silly, and her personality is equally charming, goofy, and hilarious. I cherish her 5am wake up calls for breakfast.

Hallie’s Prognosis:

Hallie was first seen by a local vet, who couldn’t understand her test results — so I took her to an emergency vet to get a (very expensive) CT scan that confirmed her condition. Hallie was diagnosed with spider tumors, a fast-spreading cancer, as well as inflamed areas in her pelvic zone.

The vet said that leg amputation was the only possible option (no chemo), but that it likely wouldn’t stop the cancer as it may have already entered Hallie’s soft tissue. While I have been offered prescription pain relief to provide Hallie some comfort, the vet will not follow up with me with this despite my repeated attempts.

Financial Cost:

I now have about $6k in vet bills. This total is certain to climb as I navigate the bureaucracy in order to get Hallie the pain relief medication that we were promised (which will require another costly visit this week).

I have pet insurance through Lemonade, but I’ve only encountered more barriers over the last month due to their incompetence (inability to follow up with the correct veterinarians despite me providing contact info, AI-operated and unresponsive customer service, etc). I do not recommend this provider for pet insurance.

At this rate, it is unlikely that Lemonade will cover most of her bills — as most pet insurance doesn’t. Until this reimbursement kicks in (if ever) my credit card is maxing out as I seek to get Hallie the care she needs.

I’ve started this GoFundMe because I could really use some support to alleviate the financial burden of these vet bills as Hallie and I navigate this bleak reality we are facing together. My goal is to raise $6k, with the understanding that her medical bills may continue to mount over the next month while I do my best to provide her the best end of life care.

Despite this sudden diagnosis, Hallie is still full of vigor and life each morning, in spite of her obvious pain. It has been so traumatizing and devastating to witness her slowly lose her light over the last month, but I know that she is not yet ready to go. It is my priority now to ensure she can live out her final days in comfort until she lets me know it is time to say goodbye.
