Help Haley's Recovery and Her Family’s Needs

My name is Haley and I’m a nurse. Usually. Right now, I’m a patient. I’ve been a patient many times over the last fifteen or so years, and for the first time, for my family, I’m reaching out and I’m asking for help.

I have a device known as a spinal cord stimulator that treats my chronic pain. After eight years, it was time to change the internal battery that keeps it running and me functional. So I underwent an outpatient battery revision surgery on May 1 and it’s been a struggle ever since. My incision opened and started draining and although we’ve done our best to take care of it, things have not gone our way and I have now been hospitalized twice in the last month. I now have a post op infection that has invaded the battery completely and is forcing me to need at least two more surgeries in the near future as they work to clear the infection and get the pain under control.

Aside from the medical expenses that keep piling up on us, my absence at home has been very trying on my family and my absence from work has made it even more difficult financially-speaking. Ordinarily, I stay home with our two daughters, ages 1 and 3, and work nightshift per diem when I’m able to get babysitting coverage for the kids.

Clearly, I can’t do that now and even once I’m out of the hospital, we will still need to hire someone to assist with our babies while I recover because my husband often works 60-80 hour weeks and has taken just about all the time he can off from work.

I have been blessed in this life to have the support of such a wonderful family, both immediate and extended, but I know that between my hospital stays and helping with my kids since that initial surgery on May 1st, they’re all burnt out too.

I’m writing this from a hospital bed the night before my next big surgery. We need some help. Any donation would go toward childcare for our girls and medical expenses to support our family through this difficult time.
