Hey! I'm Haley, and I'm producing my first ever music video! "Ohh is this a new pop song? Will I see you on the VMAs?!" you ask? Why no, it most certainly is not, and you certainly won't. I'm a Musical Theater girl through and through, but I also love to make people laugh. I also take myself the very most UNseriously! This video is a satire project regaling the trials and tribulations of living in the most famousest of theater towns: NYC! It's silly! It's New York-y! And it's fittingly filled with many bad words!
This project has been a pipe dream of mind for years--6 to be specific. It came to me in the shower after a particularly brutal audition day in the city--picture 5am on 8th ave outside Pearl Studios, in a line with 400 other girls, all about 7 years younger than I, only to be told "thanks so much we aren't seeing any Non Union today," and as I boarded the subway to get home, the train stalled due to signal problems. That's how most of my days looked back then. So I wrote a song about it! That song sat as a voice memo on my phone for 6 whole years, when one day, after having moved to the sunny shores of LA, I was catching up with a few other NY transplants and I told them I had written a song. I dug the old voice memo up, and about 2 minutes later they all had tears streaming down their faces with laughter. That gave me the idea--I have to make this real!
In an era when the only way to have a career in the arts is to make something yourself, I'm rising to the occasion! I'm so excited to finally ad "Producer" as a title on my resumé, I'm so excited to make something that will bring joy and laugher to others, and I'm so excited to be able to employ other artists!
On that note, here is where all of the funds will go:
1. Music Track Production! Thanks to a handful of donors from my first fundraiser last year, I was able to hire a talented composer and pianist to help me create the musical arrangement and record the first element of the track: the piano accompaniment! After recording my own vocals, I will now have to hire and record several more musicians (percussion and horns), as well as an audio engineer to mix and master it for release!
2. Director-Choreographer! I am partnering with my talented friend Michael McCrary who has countless videos under his belt, including many that have gone viral, and even won Best Video at the GLAM awards! He will be the fearless leader throughout our shoot, and will make sure it all looks fabulous!
2. Director of Photography! Michael is bringing his skilled team with him to film and edit the project.
4. Dancers! What would a musical comedy satire be without a fabulous group of dancers twirling and kicking their faces on a subway platform?!
5. Transportation to the shoot! Since NYC is the entire subject of the song, that is where we must film. So to New York I shall go!
I'm so excited to share this video with the world, when the world really needs a good laugh. Thank you so much for your support! I couldn't be more excited to launch this next chapter of my entertainment career!
