Help Me Become the Advocate I Was Born to Be
My name is Haley Fillmore-Tai and I’m a rising 3L (third-year law student) on a path that began long before law school—rooted in Del Paso Heights, a neighborhood in Sacramento, CA often overlooked, but never without hope.
Growing up in a low-income community, resources were scarce, but dreams weren’t. I was the first in my family to graduate college, earning a B.A. in Sociology and Psychology from California State University, Sacramento in 2015. My goal was always law, but life didn’t offer me a straight road. Personal and financial obstacles meant I had to delay my dream. I worked. I struggled. I survived.
But I never stopped pushing forward. I moved to Texas to pursue my LSAT, which got me accepted to Thurgood Marshall School of Law.
Today, I’m nearing the finish line of law school, determined to use my education to fight for children, families, and underserved communities—people like the ones I grew up with. As I prepare for the Texas Bar Exam, the costs are staggering: bar prep courses, exam fees, travel, accommodations, and more. None of it is covered by financial aid, and I’ve stretched every resource I have. I currently work at two different hospitals, active in patient care.
I’m not asking for charity—I’m asking for a chance to finish strong. To show my children and my community that perseverance pays off. Your support will help me cross the final hurdle, earn my law license, and give back as a voice for those who need one.
Thank you for being part of this journey
