Hal Schafer - Stage 4 diagnosis. Please help

I am reaching out for monetary assistance on behalf of Hal Schafer. He is a 64 year old self employed Excavating Contractor in Amador County. A very down to earth, do the right thing sort of man. I don’t think people have grasped the magnitude of his situation prior to his recent diagnosis. Always taking jobs close to home and never out of cell service so as he could care for his wife. He is the sole caretaker for his wife who had a large aneurism 10 years ago.

Recently his own health has taken a very drastic turn. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 Pseudomyxoma Peritone. Yes... CANCER!

He has tried to stay in the seat of his excavator but this cancer has taken over his entire abdominal area, pressing on his organs and causing great pain. He is scheduled for surgery this month (September) to remove around 12 pounds of a mucus like substance from his abdomen then they will lather his abdominal cavity with Chemo. After a sum of time they will remove the Chemo, clean his organs and close him up. The recovery time is anywhere from 3 months to 1 year.

One of Hal’s greatest loves is trail riding on his dirt bike.  A hobby he started at 14 years of age.  It is nothing for him to put 1000 to 1500 miles a year on his bike.  His goal is to one day get back to the mountain tops overlooking Alpine Meadows in Idaho with his dirt bike riding buddies.

Meanwhile he has accrued almost $50k in medical bills and is struggling with paying his day to day including his insurance premium. I’m not sure what insurance will cover from this point forward but I am expecting it to more than double. It would be a shame to see this man lose his family home just to make ends meet.
