My 3 year old boy abruptly had a series of cluster seizures in one day. After a full 24 hours being hospitalized, the veterinary professionals arrived at a solid plan of medication and steps moving forward towards getting back to normal. Unfortunately, with these medications we haven’t observed the best outcome and an MRI will need to be completed to assess the underlying cause of these sudden seizures. The quotes I’ve received for two different neurologists were approximately $5000-7000 and $6800. This will only be to arrive at a probable cause of these seizures then additional steps will follow the results that the neurologists find to move forward with a solution, which will be an additional cost. The previous 24 hr hospitalization was $2343. And as I write this we are on our way back to the emergency vet due to abnormal behavior following the 24 hr hospitalization ($702). It’s with a heavy heart that I write this and create a goFundme but I didn’t want to decline getting an MRI to find a solution solely due to the cost. With most neurologists being closed this weekend, we have a short window to get him seen with either of those two neurologists since they are the only two able to take him in on a Saturday and it’s unclear whether the neurologists are available on Sunday, and the doctors at the emergency vet don’t advise waiting until Monday.

For those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Haku you’d know that he’s the most gentle, silly, goofy, and athletic little guy. I just want to find what’s causing all this so we can treat the issue and he can go back to jumping off the walls with his best buddies and brother Sego and I sincerely don’t want to give up just because of the cost of the MRI.
