Dear Friends, Family, and Kind Strangers,

We are reaching out to you during one of the most challenging times in our lives. My husband, Hakim, has been battling with End Stage Renal Failure for several years. On 3/30/2025 he received the call that there was a match for a kidney transplant. This required him to travel to a different state “South Carolina”, He arrived in the overnight hours to a Level 1 Trauma Center with Prisma Health—as he was getting prepped for surgery, the kidney was being transported from Tennessee. He received the kidney of a 23-year-old donor. We are navigating a whirlwind of emotions, as we are deeply saddened by his loss, but also forever thankful for his generosity in being an Organ Donor and giving Hakim a second chance at life. We have also received contact information for the organ donor’s family, and we are excited to one day soon be in contact with them to express our gratitude for giving us a part of their loved one.

Hakim is not just my partner; he is a devoted Father, a Loving son, Brother, Martial Artist, Coach, and a Cherished Friend to many. Over the years, he has touched countless lives with his kindness, humor, and unwavering support for those around him. Unfortunately, his health deteriorated rapidly, thankfully he received a new kidney, and the journey to recovery is just now beginning. This life-changing surgery will require him to stay in South Carolina under the care of the transplant medical team at Prisma Health for the next 3 months or so while his wife and 5-year-old daughter travel back to Florida.

As we navigate the journey to recovery, the financial burden is overwhelming. The costs associated with the transplant—medical bills, medication, and recovery—are substantial. We anticipate expenses reaching tens of thousands of dollars, and while we have insurance, it doesn't cover everything. We want to ensure that Hakim can focus on his recovery, make sure the new organ doesn't reject, without the added stress of financial worries.

This life-changing surgery requires him to stay in South Carolina, post procedure, recovery, therapy and follow-up care, which brings significant financial challenges.

We are seeking your support to help cover the numerous expenses that will arise. We are raising funds to cover these costs so Hakim can focus on his recovery and building a healthier future for himself, Gio, baby Emma & his adult daughters. 

All financial assistance will be used toward the following expenses:

• Immunosuppressant medication needed for the rest of Hakim’s life

• Medical bills

• Nephrology Clinic visits

• Out-of-pocket medicine

• Out-of-pocket doctor appointments

• Transportation: flights, car travel, etc., for transplant and subsequent Post Operative visits

• Lodging: post-transplant visits to South Carolina

• Unforeseen post-transplant care

• Dialysis fees (if needed): co-payments, machine costs, etc.

• Therapy sessions
