Help Mike's family & friends survive in Haiti

Donation protected
Hi,

The horrific events in Haiti have left many of us wondering how we can help. It especially hit many of us working at the Winchester ED hard, since we personally know and love Mike (overnight environmental services). He is suffering as his family in Haiti can barely survive given the lack of resources there. When he flew to Haiti last week we asked him what we could send with him but he wasn't sure until he got there. What he saw was more than any of us can fathom. He couldn't get to his home town from the airport because all of the infrastructure had collapsed and he was surrounded by decomposing bodies. He is near tears in telling us about his best friend from childhood who did not survive. Now that he has assessed the situation, he has let us know what supplies will help his family and friends. He can ship packages through a friend's company and get them to his brother and his hometown priest who can disperse everything. It is safe this way so that the government doesn’t get involved and take anything.

He has a heart of gold and said he would "do anything" to get his 12 y/o nephew over here but the US Embassy is closed right now. Many people would love to donate money so we would love to collect enough money to pay for his next plane flight and/or his nephew's flight to get him to the U.S. We will also buy the needed supplies for him.

In the short term, please pick up a few things on the list and drop them off in the boxes in the decontamination room in the ambulance bay, or drop off with one of the organizers.

Update:

We packed up 17 boxes to be sent to Haiti this week! Thank you all so much! We would like to keep sending shipments monthly so please keep the donations coming!

Mike is trying to do all of this on his own and helping him (and many people in Haiti) would be one of the most rewarding things we could all experience.

Thank you all so much!
