Help Haitham (aka Atche) Fight Cancer

Welcome to Our Journey

Nicole and Haitham have been married for over 10 years and recently welcomed their first son in March of 2022. Nicole has a successful career as a Dental Hygienist and Haitham not only has a career in IT but also is a longtime songwriting, producing and mixing engineer who helps local artists reach their artistic goals.

Unfortunately, among their infinite blessings, they have not been without their struggles. Recently, the family has been faced with complicated medical, followed by financial challenges that have reduced their abilities to work full time and provide for their family. Nicole has needed to reduce her hours to part time while still holding the family’s insurance, which leads her to bring home only $300 every 2 weeks. Haitham, due to his recent cancer diagnosis and upcoming stem cell transplant, is unable to work for the foreseeable future.

Public benefits have been pursued but are not available to the family due to the previous income levels and tax bracket. However, this may change based on Haitham’s prognosis.

How These Funds Will Help Us

The funds will be covering rapidly growing medical bills, medications and cost of living expenses.

Haitham’s Health Challenges: From Rheumatoid Arthritis to Cancer & Beyond

Haitham has been battling “rheumatoid arthritis” (RA) which was wrongfully diagnosed for years. Having never felt 100%, he knew that something was wrong but never accepted the RA diagnosis as a definitive answer to his health struggles. Routine muscle flare ups, fatigue, lifting restrictions, difficulty walking - to name a few - are all things a 34 year old new father should not have to worry about. Even after pursuing a license in personal training and an anti-inflammatory lifestyle, he was still not feeling himself.

  • February 2022: Haitham’s symptoms started getting progressively worse, which led him to begin the pursuit of more definitive answers regarding his health and history of immobility.

  • May 20, 2022: Acute Myeloid Leukemia became the official diagnosis

  • May 23, 2022: Admitted to Northwestern Memorial, 1st Bone Marrow Biopsy to follow

  • June 2022: Chemotherapy begins, 2nd Bone Marrow Biopsy to follow

  • July 2022: 3rd Bone Marrow Biopsy, Initial Exploration of Stem Cell Transplant Options & Second Round of Chemotherapy
