Help Hailey study abroad in Florence next Fall!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Hailey, and I'm going into my final year of undergrad at WSU as an interior design major, finishing up minors in business and construction management. For our fall semester, we are required to either study abroad in Florence, Italy or complete an internship. As I will be interning for BCRA in Tacoma this summer, and have another internship experience under my belt (Thank you Doug!!), I'm looking to study abroad. We have been told by all of our professors and every industry professional I've asked that they would recommend taking this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity over the internship, as we have our whole lives ahead of us to work. And how often do you get the chance to live in Italy for four months with your best friends, studying design and architecture while surrounded by some of the greatest masterpieces in the world?

This would mean the world to me to be able to go. I have the opportunity to completely reshape my career with a global perspective, in a city made exactly for artists like myself. I have spent my academic and artistic career admiring the great artists and Renaissance Men who changed the world, and I spent my childhood dreaming of living in the city that inspired them. For that to become a reality, I need your help.

This will truly be an all-encompassing experience, with 5 trips incorporated. Here's what's included:
Classes
  • Interior Design Studio class (often held outside walking around, sketching, watercolor), Italian Language, Art History (Masters of Florence), room for extra electives like a cooking class
  • Class four days a week, with Fridays open and a very strong encouragement to use this time to travel and see other parts of Italy and Europe. Traveling is considered part of the program, which is why they give us time to do it.
Activites
  • Cooking classes (every pasta lover's dream)
  • Neighborhood walks
  • Secret Florence discovery (something you might not stumble upon in Florence on your own)
  • Public lectures at study center
Excursions
  • Cinque Terre - opening day trip: hiking between the five villages and swimming along the Italian Riviera
  • Prato - famous for its green and white striped marble buildings and textiles
  • Carrara Marble Quarry - go inside the mountain where the most famous marble in the world comes from
  • Venice - 2 days in the sinking city, with trips out to Murano (famous for glass) and Burano (famous for lace and colorful buildings)
  • Milan - 2 days in the fashion capital of the world, and home to some incredible architecture

WSU's partnership program is with CEA, located in the Piazza della Repubblica, which if you aren't familiar is the most famous square in the heart of Florence, two blocks from the Duomo and five blocks from the Ponte Vecchio along the Arno River. Housing and insurance is also included.
